What is Alpha Zeta?

Alpha Zeta is a honorary and professional fraternity of men and women whose educational objectives and/or careers fall within the broadly defined field of agriculture. Founded at The Ohio State University on November 4, 1897, it is the oldest fraternal organization in agriculture.

Student and Chapter Development

One objective of the Fraternity is to develop leadership, fellowship and character among its student members. Academics, leadership and character continue to be the criteria used to determine students eligible to join Alpha Zeta. Prospective members must have an academic record in the upper two-fifths (40%) of their class after the completion of one academic year.

Beginning with this academic benchmark, chapters determine their own selection process. To strengthen chapters and increase student participation, the High Council encourages chapters to initiate in the fall and to initiate a balance of sophomores, juniors and seniors.

The Fraternity encourages activities and service projects that help student members take advantage of the opportunity Alpha Zeta provides to develop their leadership skills. The student members of Alpha Zeta have undertaken a wide variety of projects to develop these ideals.

To encourage participation of students in national events, the High Council has a position of Student Representative.
