Delta Sigma Phi and the American Red Cross

"Blood, Sweat and Cash Service Project"

In 2006 Delta Sigma Phi and the American Red Cross created a partnership known as the American Red Cross "Blood, Sweat and Cash Service Project. This year the Epsilon Chapter of Delta Sigma Phi will work together to support local programs like disaster services, blood collections, CPR and First Aid training by through the Centre Communities Chapter of American Red Cross, located in State College, PA.

The "Blood, Sweat and Cash Service Project" is comprised of two key aspects. The first is a Delta Sigma—Red Cross Months. This November, January, and February every brother of our fraternity will take part in a service project with the Red Cross including signing people up for blood drives, helping people during and after they have given blood, or participating in training for emergencies. Each individual Brother and new member will contribute a minimum of 10-15 hours each semester, and will donate blood if allowed.

The second aspect of our campaign is a set of annual goals to be reached by each national chapter of Delta Sigma Phi together over the course of the year. As a national fraternity, we have set a goal of donating or coordinating the donation of 50,000 pints of blood, performing 75,000 hours of service (or 'sweat') for the Red Cross, and contributing $100,000 to the Red Cross, hence the name of the program "Blood, Sweat and Cash." To reach this goal over 4,000 undergraduate brothers will use our strength and determination together as a fraternity to make this entire program successful.     In the Fall Semester, our Brothers and new members worked almost 120 Hours, and we raised almost $1500 for the Centre Communities Chapter through our Inaugural Polar Bear 5K which was held on Saturday, December 2nd, 2006 in State College, PA.
