So Why Join a Fraternity?

Throughout your life friends will come and go, but the friends you will make in a fraternity will last a life time. Every fraternity has strong traditions that make it unique from other organizations and this helps add to fraternal bonds and friendships. Fraternities are a way of life, and they provide a rich atmosphere to meet other students socially, scholastically and professionally. Every fraternity participates in service activities which allow us to give back to the community. Here at Penn State each fraternity is involved in Dance MaraTHON, helping to raise millions of dollars in an effort to cure childhood cancer. Another benefit of a fraternity is opportunity to network. While looking for a job, you are in a bond with decades of brothers in the professional world. The greatest reason to join a fraternity is Brotherhood, a bond that can never be explained… only experienced!!

Why Join TKE?

So why join TKE instead of another fraternity? TKE offers you some things that other fraternities can't. We believe strongly in academics and encourage strong scholastic achievement among the brotherhood. The results of these lofty scholastic goals can be seen in the professional success that is enjoyed by TKE alumni. In TKE we go beyond other fraternities to give back to our community. Just last year Pi Chapter contributed over one hundred hours of community service in Centre County. While our brotherhood asks a lot of itself scholastically we also foster a healthy social atmosphere in which interaction with many other sororities and fraternities helps build social morale and offers us rewards for work well done.

Something that might discourage you from other fraternities is their new member education programs that can last through 2 semesters. At TKE we don't have a typical "Pledge" process. Instead we have a 6 week new member education period, where you learn the history of the fraternity and the importance of brotherhood. During the new member education period you are invited to attend fraternity dinners and functions where you will learn from the brothers about the fraternity.

ACADEMICS

During our education process there are mandatory study hours each week that allow our new members the opportunity to interact with older brothers who have been through the same courses and are always willing to help. This helped last year’s entering class receive the 3rd highest GPA of all fraternities. Brothers are currently in fields of study such as Finance, Engineering, Pro Golf Management, Mathematics, Communications, Theater and much more. Several brothers are also members of the Schreyer's Honors College. If you want to make the best of your college education take advantage of what TKE has to offer you, and realize that TKE is your answer to future success.

LEADERSHIP

"There are no such things as limits to growth, because there are no limits on the human capacity for intelligence, imagination and wonder." -Ronald Reagan

President Ronald Reagan was a leader of the United States of America, and a life-long TKE. Tau Kappa Epsilon has developed leaders throughout history and will continue to do so. During the new member education period you will get a taste of what it takes to be a leader through community events that will be organized by your entering class. As a member there are executive positions to fill in the house, as well as many chair positions which give each member the chance to prove themselves as leaders and organize fraternity events. As new members you must realize that you are the future of TKE and the future of this country, both of which are deserving of a FUTURE worthy of their PAST.

SERVICE

Tau Kappa Epsilon has made it one of their main objectives at Penn State University. In our involvement with THON we traveled as far as Connecticut and Long Island to raise money for children with cancer. This past year we raised, with Theta Kappa Pi, $70,000. In addition to THON brothers participate in events like Project Haiti, using their vacation time to aid children and families living in unfortunate conditions. It is said that he who would be master of all must first be servant to all. This is true at TKE and our service humbles us as it allows us to grow into better men.

SOCIAL LIFE

With over 80 Greek organizations on campus, Tau Kappa Epsilon seeks to schedule social and philanthropic events with as many as possible. From dinners to celebrations, there is always a reason for a social event. Greek Week is a week full of activities with all organizations which involve competitions as well as several social and philanthropic events. Homecoming is another week long celebration that showcases school pride with a magnificent parade that takes second stage only to the annual football game the next morning. Furthermore, TKE participates in every intramural sport offered on campus, and we have show excellence and sportsmanship on the field, court, rink and track. TKE gets involved in school and community as well as Greek life to give its members the best social life of anyone at Penn State.

BROTHERHOOD

Brotherhood is beyond friendship. It is trust, respect, loyalty...there is no word to accurately describe it. It can only be experienced. To understand the experience you must make the choice to belong...and the challenge to become, Tau Kappa Epsilon.
