Through the years, the AOII Foundation has been proud to provide research grants which partially fund dozens of arthritis related projects. In 1998 the Arthritis Foundation awarded its prestigious Corporate Hero Award to the AOII Foundation for its ongoing support of critical arthritis research and efforts to educate AOII members about arthritis. For example, just during the past four years, the following AOII grants relate to one of five types of arthritis common to women. This is only a partial listing of the research grants supported by the AOII Foundation. For more information, visit www.arthritis.org.
To sponsor our national philanthropy, AOII - Epsilon Alpha holds a Football Challenge every spring -- rain or shine!. Dozens of teams, comprised of Penn State students, fellow Greek community members, alumnae, and State College residents, sign up and participate in this incredible day-long event. The sisters of AOII use the Intramural Sports fields on Penn State's main campus. Local vendors and restaurants donate food, apparel, and equipment. All participants receive a free t-shirt, designed by our Football Challenge chairs. As the DJ cranks up the music, teams are coached by the sisters of AOII as they cheer from the sidelines.

"Over the past 35 years, the students of THON have raised more than $46 million and have helped thousands of children and families fight pediatric cancer.
Welcome to the largest student-run philanthropy in the world, the Penn State IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon (THON)! THON is a year round fundraising event benefiting The Four Diamonds Fund, Conquering Childhood Cancer, at the Penn State Children's Hospital in Hershey, PA. The year culminates in a no-sitting, no-sleeping, two day dance marathon held every February. Over the past 35 years, the students of THON have raised more than $46 million and have helped thousands of children and families fight pediatric cancer.
During THON weekend, 700 dancers and thousands of supporters come together in the hopes of one day finding a cure for pediatric cancer. Whether standing for two days as a dancer, entertaining the crowd, taking care of the facility, or even standing in the bleachers, every person at THON plays a small part in creating an amazing atmosphere of love, compassion, and understanding. This atmosphere inspires the students to fundraise throughout the year and tells the families of The Four Diamonds Fund that they have the care and support they need. This collective effort, involving more than 15,000 students, has become one of Penn State's greatest and most unifying traditions" [www.thon.org].
AOII & THON:
Someday we'll dance for joy ... until then, we dance for a cure.
THON is arguably AOII's greatest and most passionate cause. We are the proud sponsors of three children: Jaclyn, Tommy, and Ian. THON 2008 marks the beginning of a new partnership between Alpha Omicron Pi and Delta Sigma Phi. The sisters of AOII dedicate their energy, heart and soul to the incredible cause - and we do not stop after those 46 hours. We stay on our feet - canning, day trips, road trips, and fundraising - and continue the cause year round. In addition to AOII teamwork, we have sisters on every committee at THON - hospitality, communications, finance, morale, entertainment, OPPerations, public relations, special events, and rules & regs - in addition to an impressive number of committee captains.
In 2007, AOII - teamed with the brothers of Acacia - raised nearly $120,000, placing 6th overall - contributing to the grand total of $5,240,385.17 (yes, over five MILLION dollars - raised solely by Penn State students). AOII has been a reoccuring member of the Lion Shrine, which is an exclusive title reserved for organizations that raise over $150,000.
