| Childhood cancer is one of the most
disturbing ailments of our society today. To aid families suffering
through this horrible disease, Penn State University has established
the largest student-run philanthropy in the world: the Penn State
IFC/Panhellenic Dance Marathon!
THON
has become as much a part of Penn State tradition as tailgating for
the football games. It involves the participation of over 230
student organizations, over 2,000 student committee members, and
more than 700 dancers. The dancers cannot sleep or sit for 48 hours
straight (the duration of the marathon) in order to raise money for
The Four Diamonds Fund at Penn State Children’s Hospital in Hershey,
Pennsylvania (formerly the Hershey Medical
Center).
The
Four Diamonds Fund provides comprehensive care for children with
cancer and support for their families such as medical and travel
expenses. It also funds the income of child life experts, social
workers, and research of pediatric cancer. No family has ever been
turned down by the Four Diamonds Fund, and 92% of the money raised by
THON goes directly to these Four Diamonds patients and their
families. That is why it is important that students at Penn State
University continue to raise money through Dance Marathon.
In 1977
Penn State students raised a little over $28,000.00 and this year in
2007 Penn State students raised over 5.2 million dollars!
Kappa Alpha Theta Sorority is partnered with Beta Theta
Pi Fraternity. We are very excited to raise money for such a
wonderful cause!
Fortunately, our Four Diamonds child, Levi Baker, is now in
remission. This was such a thrill for
both the Bakers and us.

Our THON Child, Levi.
