Kappa Alpha Theta
(ΚΑΘ)
Here is the story for Kappa Alpha Theta:
The initial reason I decided to go through sorority recruitment was to branch out and meet new people. I come from a town in Pennsylvania where the majority of students end up going to Penn State for college. Both my parents attended Penn State and I had grown up loving the school. As my senior year of high school approached, I knew I wanted to continue my education there, but I was scared that it was going to be like high school all over again and I wasn't going to meet any new friends. The first week of school, I did exactly that and hung out in my "comfort zone" with old high school friends. One day I heard a girl on my floor talking about how sorority recruitment was approaching. I had never really considered joining a sorority, since no one in my family ever had been a part of Greek Life. I thought about it for awhile and finally decided to sign up to go through recruitment. Once the rush process was over, I began pledging Kappa Alpha Theta and immediately met an entirely new group of friends. Although meeting the people that I now consider my best friends was what I initially joined a sorority for, the social aspect ended up not being the only advantage of being in Greek Life. Not only did my sorority provide me with amazing bonds and friendships, it opened me up to numerous opportunities such as philanthropy, networking, and leadership. This past year I became the chapter president of my sorority, which has been one of the best learning experiences of my entire life. Never did I think in a million years that joining a sorority would offer me these outstanding opportunities to get involved in so many different ways. What started out as a journey to meet new people and for social reasons ended up changing my life completely. I love everything about being a part of Greek Life and to this day think that joining has been one of the best decisions I have ever made.
