Growing up in the south, (name removed) always knew she wanted to join a sorority. She looked forward to making lifetime friends and embracing the challenges she sometimes avoided.
Who Am I:
I attended an all girls Catholic highschool and looked forward to embracing many different opportunities college offered and becoming apart of the college community.
My sorority experience has been an opportunity of self-growth. It has helped me to challenge myself in many different ways. After joining a sorority, one year later I was elected to be Chapter President. At first, I was extremely intimidated by the responsibility that I embarked upon but later was able to embrace. Being a leader of ninety women presented many days of tears, laughter, anger, excitement and intimidation. The challenges that I faced during my term offered me lessons for a lifetime. The first lesson was that it was okay to make mistakes. The second lesson that being President taught me was to never underestimate myself. The final lesson and most important lesson I learned was to constantly challenge myself. Challenges are outlets to better yourself as a person.
Words to Live By: Leadership and learning are indispensable to each other.
-John F. Kennedy
Goal: My future goal is to work as a Speech and Language Pathologist in a children’s hospital.
Why I Joined: The main reason why I joined a sorority was to make the most of my college experience by joining an organization that promoted leadership, academics, philanthropy and sisterhood. It is also a wonderful opportunity to meet people.
My Sisters: After growing up with two older brothers, I looked forwarded to finally having sisters. Despite the many different backgrounds and interests, the camaraderie a sorority offers is indescribable. From doing philanthropic activities together, late night studying, going to athletic events, to going to social events together, joining a sorority offers a unique college experience and offers you memories to last a lifetime.
What is Sorority Life Really Like: Sorority life is like a constant sleepover with your best friends. There is always someone to go to dinner with, watch a tv show with or to go out with. It is a lot of fun and is a wonderful opportunity to meet a lot of a different people.
My Advice: Be open-minded. First impressions are not always correct and during recruitment there are many different stereotypes that will be presented to you. Just have fun and be yourself!
