Who I Am
I am the first person in my entire family to be involved in Greek life. I came from a small town in Virginia, and I had no close friends going away to college with me. I was on my own. I came to college thinking sororities consisted of a bunch of catty girls who gossiped and partied all the time, but after attending recruitment info sessions, and a little push from my roommate, I decided to give it a try.
Words to Live By
The best way to predict your future is to create it. ~Peter Drucker
Goals
I hope to pursue a career in publishing with a magazine or journal.
Why I Joined
I wanted to find a group of friends who would become like family to me. I wanted the security of having a support system while I was away from home. I just wanted to feel like I belonged at such a huge school.
My Sisters
My sisters are always there for me, through thick and thin. No matter what day of the week or time of day, or what argument you had earlier in the day, you know someone will always be there as a shoulder to cry on or lend an ear.
What is Sorority Life Really Like?
Sorority life is an experience you just have to live for yourself. It’s full of ups and downs, highs and lows—but it’s amazing what a group of women can accomplish together. The bonds you create with the women you are connected to through a promise at initiation is unbelievable.
My Advice
Finish the recruitment process no matter which sorority you end up with. Like everyone says, you end up where you belong. You’ll make friends no matter which sorority you join, so have an open mind and try not to take into consideration any rumors you may have heard.
Activities
Besides being an active member of my sorority, I work in the Writing Center on campus and tutor ESL students in writing.
Favorite Band
It’s hard to choose, based on the day of the week it always changes. Right now I would have to say Kings of Leon.
Favorite Book
The Great Gatsby by F.Scott Fitzgerald. I could read it a million times and it would never get old!
Hobbies
I love bike riding, reading, editing, and as old lady-ish as it sounds, my favorite is knitting.
Favorite Place
My favorite place in the world is Madrid, Spain. I visited the city in high school and I’ve been longing to return ever since. It’s beautiful and full of life and diversity.
Indulgence
My indulgence is Stumbleupon.com. You never know what you’re going to come across, and it’s amazing what you can find on the internet to learn about or play with.
